“No Deal’s atmosphere lurks in the same place as This Mortal Coil’s Lynchian glow, Portishead’s sinister authority, and Mark Hollis of Talk Talk’s smoky self-titled solo album.” – The Guardian
“No Deal is an album to get completely immersed in.” – BBC Music Magazine
“On a line between a beats-free Portishead and a subtle union of the voices of June Christy and Mahalia Jackson.” – MOJO Magazine
Acclaimed Belgian dark-jazz singer/flautist Melanie De Biasio, who has released her new album No Deal (now available in the US through PIAS following tremendous European success) is France Rock’s latest Featured Artist.
Initially heralded as a new voice in jazz with her debut album A Stomach is Burning, this new sophomore album has already gone gold in Belgium, silver in France, was featured as “Album of the Week” on Gilles Peterson’s influential BBC 6 Music show, and featured prominently on KCRW as a “song of the day”. De Biasio’s semi-improvised, dark, minimalist approach to the genre will reward any music-lover willing to take the time to immerse themselves in No Deal.
